"South Korean 'Minjung' Documentary Films: Past and Present" with Dr. Inyoung Nam

Description: Dr. Inyoung Nam is a professor and director of the Film Archive and Research Center at Dongseo University in South Korea. She will discuss in her lecture the past and present of ‘Minjung,’ making the argument that many Korean Minjung documentary films have been co-produced and co-circulated by filmmakers, political activists, and diverse organized and non-organized members of the 'Minjung' movement, which opens new challenges to documentary filmmaking and the conception of cinema. She will offer a brief history of such attempts and then deliver accounts of recent issues among the independent documentary filmmakers and oppositional communities.
