Gold Star Families for Peace abhors violence in any form.
Although we do not support or approve of some of Saddam Hussein’s actions while he was president of Iraq, we also know that the USA propped up his regime, sold weapons to him, and were supporters of Iraq during the bloody war between Iran and Iraq.
GSFP mourn the innocent Iraqis that were killed under the Saddam regime as we mourn the innocent Iraqis who have been killed under the USA/Bush led invasion and occupation of Iraq. A recent study showed that almost 700,000 innocent Iraqis are dead from the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq.
Now with nearly 3000 of our own young troops dead along with the innocent Iraqis and a country lying in ruin for the lies of the Bush regime, we are calling for George Bush and any other member of his administration who lied to the world about the reasons for the invasion, be called to accountability through legal systems, too.
However, since GSFP is against violence---which includes state perpetrated and sanctioned violence, also: we do not want our murderous leaders executed any more than we wanted to see Saddam executed.
We are praying and working for a “Peace Surge” for the coming year to bring humanity closer to a world where problems are solved without killing. Our troops need to be redeployed to their home bases and healing needs to begin in Iraq; the United States of America; and our world.
