[Los Angeles=Mike Kim Minjok Tongshin Staff Reporter] On Saturday, November 9, 2019, Minjok Tongshin celebrated the 20-year anniversary since its founding in 1999. The event was held at the JJ Grand Hotel in Koreatown, Los Angeles, where over 200 guests and allies gathered to celebrate with music, food, drink, congratulatory remarks, and speeches.

Everyone gathered on the 2nd floor of the hotel to check-in, and then start with a buffet dinner consisting of some of the best that Korean food has to offer, including kimchi, japchae noodles, and galbi short rib. After the dinner, the music began.
From opera singers to traditional Korean music performances, it was a wonderful time. We also heard some speeches, including from our honored guest, Gerry Condon, President of Veterans For Peace, who attended our celebration along with other Veterans For Peace members, in order to accept Minjok Tongshin’s “Peace & Social Justice Award”.
We also heard speeches from other non-Korean groups such as Brian Becker of ANSWER Coalition and John Parker from the International Action Center. Journalist and host of “The Empire Files” Abby Martin was also in attendance.
To finish off the night, was a closing speech from Mr. Hosuk Han. Upon finishing his speech around 8:45 PM, the attendees gathered together to take pictures together, celebrating 20 years of Minjok Tongshin and to show support for a peace treaty and reunification in Korea.
