Cuba"s former leader Fidel Castro Tuesday praised the United Nations (UN) vote against the U.S. embargo against Cuba, calling it an "uprising" in the United Nations.
The 84-year-old former Cuban leader said this in an article entitled "The uprising in the UN."

"We need a truly democratic UN, not the one with an imperial manner and the vast majority of its members counting for nothing," he said.
Last Thursday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted against the decades-long economic sanctions imposed on Cuba by the United States. Only the United States and Israel voted against the resolution.
Washington imposed a trade embargo on Cuba in the early 1960s after the two countries severed diplomatic ties. The Cuban government estimates that the embargo has caused economic losses for Cuba exceeding 750 billion U.S. dollars.
