주한미군들에 의해 여중생들이 살해된 사건과 관련 일본과 미주지역을 비롯 해외에서도 서명운동을 전개하고 있다.

미주에서는 16일 전민특위 중심으로 서명운동을 시작했다. 로스엔젤레스 지역은 청년단체 통일맞이나성포럼(송현정 회장)과 2세 단체인 민들레가 중심이 되어 영문서명지를 배포하며 서명운동을 펼치고 있다.

한편 일본지억에서는 이미 지난 4일 역전 등에서 일반인들을 대상으로 서명을 운동을 벌였다. 일본지역에서는 지역대책위원회를 꾸려 조직적으로 서명운동을 전개해 일본사회의 관심을 모으고 있다.

미군장갑차에 의한 여중생 살인사건 일본지역대책위원회(위원장 곽수호) 회원들은 4일 도내 에서 홍보활동을 전개, 부시 미대통령과 주한미군사령관의 사죄, 책임자처벌, 불평등한 소파 개정 등을 요구하는 서명에 협력을 요청했다.

신오쿠보역 주변은 국내에서 온 한국인 등 동포들이 많이 살고 있는 지역. 회원들이 홍보활동을 시작하자 그들은 사건의 개요와 항의운동을 담은 사진패널과 포스터 전시를 열심히 보면서 기꺼이 서명에 응했다.

8월 이후 매달 1회의 홍보활동(서명운동)을 계속해온 대책위원회는 도쿄 이외에도 10일에 요코하마, 12일 교토와 오사카, 17일에 나고야에서도 서명을 전개한다.

또 오키나와 등 각지의 반기지, 반전운동과 결부해 시민단체들이 서명을 보내오는 등 큰 반향을 불러일으키고 있다.

Support the Pan-Korean Petition Campaign


The Pan-Korean petition campaign demands a full and open investigation of the deaths of two Jr. High School girls, Shin Hyo Soon and Shim Mi Sun, by a U.S. armored vehicle on June 13, 2002. The petition, which has been signed by more than 1 million Korean people, also calls for a formal apology from President George W. Bush, punishment for the two U.S. army sergeants responsible for the deaths, and the closing of all U.S. military bases in south Korea.

Petition to U.S. President George W. Bush

We, the undersigned, call on you, President George W. Bush, to:

*Publicly apologize to the families of the victims and the Korean people.

*Agree to the setting up of a new investigation committee with representation from families of the victims and civic leaders to find the truth about what happened.

*Punish the two U.S. army sergeants and their superiors who are responsible for the deaths of the two girls.

*Close down Camp Howze, the Yang Ju U.S. military base where the incident took place.

*Order USFK [US Forces in South Korea] to make immediate reparation to the victims?families.

*Tell USFK to give up the jurisdiction on this case and to revise the unfair SOFA [Status of Forces Agreement] that governs US military forces in south Korea.
