[평화재향군인회 3명 제주도로의 입국이 거부되다.]

우리는 오늘 평화재향군인회 소속 세 명이 한국 제주도행으로의 입국이 거부된 사실을 접하게 되었습니다.
타랙 카우프, 엘리엇 아담스 그리고 마이크 해스티가 중국 상하이를 통해 제주도에 도착하자 제주 공항에서는 이 세 사람의 사진을 든 정부 관계자가 기다리고 있었고, 제주도로 집입이 허락되지 않는다고 했습니다.
그리고는 3명 모두를 상하이로 가는 비행기편에 돌려보냈습니다.

그들이 상하이에 도착했을 때 비행기편의 변경을 이유로 각 사람에게 280불씩을 지불하라고 요청을 받았습니다. 그러나 타랙 카우프씨가 본인들은 중국을 목표로 지어지고 있는 해군기지를 반대하기위해 한국으로 향했다가 입국을 거부당한 것이라고 설명하자, 중국 관계자는 각 사람에게 물었던 280불을 면제해 주었습니다.

타랙, 엘리엇 그리고 마이크는 제주 강정마을 사람들과 함께 자리할 수 없는 것에 대해 굉장히 실망하고 있습니다. 한국평화재향군인회 회원들도 미국평화재향군인회 회원들을 만나기 위해 서울에서 제주도로 합류할 계획이었습니다.

이번 일은 제주도 해군기지 건설을 반대하는 국제적인 움직임이 커지는 것에 한국 괴뢰정권이 얼마나 두려움을 느끼는지를 분명히 보여주는 것입니다. 우리는 한국당국이 어디에서 평화재향군인회 세 명의 사진을 구했는지 알고 있습니다. 그들은 오바마의 아시아 태평양 지역의 군사의 “축” 을 위한 미군함의 출입을 위해 제주도에 해군기지를 세우도록 한국정부에 압력을 가하고 있는 미군으로부터 사진을 받았습니다.

엔지 젤터(영국)와 벤지 모네(프랑스)가 해군기지 건설을 반대하는 시위 중에 연행된 후 어제 한국에서 추방당했습니다.

Dear friends,

Please see attached a letter from Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. He is also an advisory committee member of the Global Campaign to Save Jeju Island. Last week, they raised money to send three U.S. Veterans for Peace to Jeju Island. Today they were denied entry.

Also today, the South Korean authorities detained and began the process of deporting two international nonviolent peace activists, Angie Zelter from the UK and Benjamin Monnet from France. Angie, who is has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize has been in Jeju for several weeks since she participated in the Global Network"s peace conference. Benjamin was an active member of the international solidarity team and has been in Jeju since May working day in and day out to join the villagers in the fight to defend their land, their culture, their way of life.

These are crucial times. The blasts are continuing on Gureombi and will continue to do so for the next 150 days. We have to sustain our pressure on the South Korean government. Please take a moment to respond to Bruce Gagnon"s plea to make calls to the Embassy. We also need help reaching the media to shine a bright light on the horrific actions of the South Korean government against its own people.

Thank you for your solidarity. It does make a difference. We can stop this base. We can stop this arms race. We can envision a peaceful future.

Three VFP members denied entry to Jeju Island

We"ve just learned that the three Veterans For Peace members who arrived in Jeju Island, South Korea today were denied entry into the country.  

Tarak Kauff, Elliott Adams, and Mike Hastie were met by South Korean authorities when they landed on Jeju Island via Shanghai, China.  The South Korean authorities had a photo of each of them in their hands and told them they would not be allowed to enter Jeju Island.  

They were instead taken and put on a plane back to Shanghai. When they arrived in Shanghai they were told that they each had to pay $280 for the change in flight schedule.  But Tarak told the Chinese that they had just been denied entry into South Korea because they were going to protest against a Navy base that was being aimed at China.  When the Chinese authorities heard that they waived the $280 fee for each of them.  

Tarak, Elliott and Mike are severely disappointed that they will not be able to stand with the people of Gangjeong village on Jeju Island.  South Korean members of VFP were planning on flying from Seoul to Jeju Island to meet with the American VFP members.  

This case though illustrates just how much the South Korean puppet regime fears the growing international movement to support the fight against the Navy base on Jeju Island.  We know where the South Korean authorities got the photos of the three American veterans. They got them from the US military who is pressuring the South Korean government to build this base that will be used to port U.S. warships that will be used in Obama"s military "pivot" into the Asia-Pacific region.  

Just yesterday Angie Zelter (UK) and Benji Monnet (France) were deported from South Korea after being arrested for protesting against the Navy base.    

Please help send a strong message to the South Korean government by calling and/or organizing a protest at the nearest South Korean embassy/consulate to your community. Also call the South Korean embassy in Washington DC 202-939-5692 or 202-939-5600 to lodge a strong complaint about them denying the three VFP members entry to Jeju Island.  

Can there be an question that we are now living in a corporate dominated police state?  

Please remember too that the South Korean corporation Samsung is the lead contractor building the Navy base on Jeju.  Boycott Samsung!
