America’s “Fake News” Epidemic & North Korea

By: Kim Duk Chang

Dec 19, 2016

In the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the establishment’s chosen candidate Hillary Clinton was defeated in a stunning upset by “Pied Piper” candidate Donald Trump. Now, they are looking for someone to blame. They won’t talk of how it was the DNC itself that conspired against Bernie Sanders and in favor of Clinton during the primaries, nor how the DNC used its media connections to elevate Trump to go head-to-head against Clinton, with Trump being the only candidate unpalatable enough for the detestable Clinton to be able to possibly defeat.

Unfortunately for them, it didn’t work. Now they want to blame “fake news” and Russian “hacking” for Clinton’s defeat, not how the Democrats, despite talking a good game, have continued to fail working class people time and again, while always quickly dropping to their knees to serve their ruling class sponsors. No, blame fake news and Russian hackers, they say. Even Facebook, with 1.79+ billion members, has announced it will work with outside “fact-checkers” to determine what is “real news” and what is “fake news”.

HYPOCRISY AT ITS FINEST

It’s certainly a relief that we’re now going to crack down on fake news. I’m sure the American masses must certainly appreciate that their corporate media and politicians are now going to take a stand against this epidemic of misinformation being spread to the public.

Unfortunately for those who have at least some level of political maturity, the news has always been fake. To now hear these lying politicians and lying corporate media shills speaking out against fake news is like hearing Park Geun-hye speak out against puppet leaders.

NORTH KOREA & FAKE NEWS

Those who keep an eye on the DPRK (aka “North Korea”) know that not a month goes by where the media doesn’t report another crazy story from the DPRK, virtually all of which turn out to be false. There’s never a retraction, but within a month, you can be sure there will be another crazy story about the DPRK, which will also turn out to be false.

Some of the media’s “greatest hits” of  fake stories out of the DPRK include:

-Kim Jong Un fed his uncle to 120 dogs;

-Kim Jong Un’s ex-girlfriend was executed for being in a risqué film;

-DPRK threatens war over the Sony film, “The Interview”;

-Kim Jong Il played 18 holes of golf and came 34 under par;

-North Korean males forced to have the same haircut as Kim Jong Un;

-DPRK football players are tortured for losing;

-North Korean officials are executed with mortar rounds;

-North Koreans are executed for watching foreign films; and

-North Koreans believe in unicorns.

While these stories are absolutely ridiculous, unfortunately to most people who still put too much faith into their own “free” media, these fake stories become facts in their minds. With each new story they hear about the DPRK, their image of the country continues to get worse. They don’t even question these stories anymore, and in fact, the crazier the story, the more believable it is, simply because the DPRK has such a horrible reputation due to decades of negative reporting. The masses have been so misled about our brothers and sisters in  the DPRK that they are unable to comprehend that there could possibly be anything resembling normalcy or happiness in a place they’ve been conditioned to fear and despise.

A VICTIM OF FAKE NEWS

In fact, any positive portrayal or even just a normal discussion of the DPRK will create a knee jerk reaction, prompting many to angrily comment about the reality of the “evil regime” of the DPRK. For example, earlier this year, Louis Cole, a British YouTube vlogger, visited the DPRK and filmed his time there and showed the country as he experienced it. He stated he was aware of all the bad press the country receives (who isn’t?), but that he wanted to focus on the positive things.

For Cole, the backlash was real. Even Vanity Fair wrote an article about him, accusing him of being used for “North Korean propaganda”. He received numerous comments on his videos condemning him for staying silent about “human rights abuses” by the DPRK. This is, of course, quite rich coming from westerners, especially US Americans, who pretend like they care about human rights around the world, while they ignore the human rights situation in their own country, and the human rights violations committed by their own government around the world. Still, the backlash Cole received was nothing compared to how bad Dennis Rodman was demonized over his 2013 visits to the DPRK and his friendship with Kim Jong Un.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA:
ESTABLISHMENT PROPAGANDA

So then, with the stories about the DPRK being false over and over, why does the media continue to pump these stories out as if they’re real? Surely they themselves know that these stories aren’t credible, so why do they do it? Why do they knowingly lie and mislead the public about the DPRK?

Why does the media continue to lie and mislead the public about Syria? Or Ukraine? Why did the media lie and mislead the public about Libya? Why did the media lie and mislead the public about Iraq? And why does the media and our so-called leaders now want to talk about fake news? Why wasn’t it a problem before? Would they care about it had Clinton won the election? Is the media truly free and independent? Or is it establishment propaganda?

ENOUGH OF THE LIES

Don’t allow them to fool you. As long as the fake news you consume and trust is the one they provide you, they don’t care about fake news. When establishment figures are warning you about fake news, it means they’re concerned with losing their control of your mind and don’t want you seeking alternative answers, which is exactly what you should be doing.

Yes, fake news is a problem, not just now, but it always has been. The establishment’s news is what gets the people of the United States to support every war the empire wants. Wars that later the people come to realize were mistakes, only to support the next war, and the next after that.

KOREAN AMERICAN TRAGEDY & HOPE

The sad part for Korean American people is that they are victims of misinformation being spread about the DPRK, and they don’t even realize it. While U.S. foreign policy is the number one barrier to peace, the Korean Americans have the most power to change it, but due to having been misled by the propaganda of US imperialism and all its “fake news”, they have chosen to ignore, fear, and despise their own blood brothers and sisters that reside north of the DMZ, and that is absolutely tragic, for we are only hating ourselves.

It’s time for Korean Americans to be strong, to unite, and to demand the signing of a peace treaty, an end to the Korean War, and a path to reunification. We should no longer allow ourselves to be fooled by all the false stories we hear about the DPRK. We should question and verify all the negative stories we hear, and we should work together to spread the truth about the DPRK.

We will no longer allow U.S. imperialism to dictate whether or not we can love the people of the DPRK. We love them, for they are us, and we are one people. We are Korean, and all of us, in the USA, the DPRK, the ROK, and around the world, we will win back our country together.

One Korea Manse!
