A Unification Ministry official says the government is positively considering North Korea’s proposal to hold a reunion of separated families around the Chuseok holidays.
<##IMAGE##> The official on Saturday confirmed that the North’s Red Cross made the proposal in a message sent to the South’s Red Cross. He said the government will deliberate on the matter after consulting with the South Korean Red Cross.
The official said the government is also considering the North’s offer to hold working-level talks but said no decisions have yet been made.
The official said once a date is set for the reunion, it takes at least two months to exchange lists of family members that will take part in the reunion. He said the reunion is likely to take place at the family reunion center in Mount Geumgang.
