President Lee Myung-bak says the government may consider setting up a second inter-Korean industrial complex in North Korea if Pyongyang takes cooperative measures on the existing Gaeseong industrial park and creates a reliable and safe business environment.
<##IMAGE##> In an interview with a Russian state television station, Russia 24-TV, on Friday, Lee said that he hopes to maintain and develop the Gaeseong complex, as it is currently the only project the two Koreas are cooperating on.
Lee added that although inter-Korean relations are currently strained, there is a chance they can be normalized if the two sides reconcile and expand economic cooperation.
However, the president made it clear that the North must apologize for the sinking of the "Cheonan" naval vessel before the two sides move forward and seek normalized ties.
On the G20 Seoul summit, Lee said that the agenda will include development issues for the world’s poorest countries.
